Short Haul with MFS

Here are some photos from our members training with Maine Forest Rangers in Short Haul rescues. Old Town Paramedics are brought to remote areas of Maine, suspended from beneath the helicopters, then render care to those in need.

Ice Water Rescue

Water Rescue Training

 Crews train annually on seasonal types of water rescues, including Ice and Swift water.

 Shown here are members training on boat rescues. Members also train on use of our ATV in off-road rescue situations.

Equipment Training

In between calls for service, members will train on operation of our "day-to-day" equipment. Shown here are members training on Ladder 375.

Extrication Training

 Vehicle extrication allows our crews to remain current and familiarized with our extrication equipment. Rescue 378 carries airbags, the JAWS of life, strut systems, and more. Training vehicles can range in size from sedan to school bus.

Confined Space Training

  Whole department training takes place annually regarding confined space rescue.

Public Education

 Public education is a large component of this career. Department members enter local schools annually for Fire Safety education. We also teach classes within the fire station, shown here is gear donning with local ROTC & NROTC Cadets.

Shown here is Athletic EMS Response ​Training for both Hockey and Football players. This is joint training, typically done annually with Orono Fire Department and University Volunteer Ambulance Corps (UVAC).
